Time For Some Action… Tuesday, August 5th 2014. Day 6

Today started off with me eating breakfast and lunch more than a few hours early so that I could get off to an early start for my bike ride. It's Tuesday, which means a ride of at least 40 miles. I ate light but drank plenty of water as there is a heat advisory out for today's + 90 degree weather. See you when I return.

Start Of Diet : 270.8 lbs.
Start Off Weight: 265 lbs.
End Weight : 260.8 lbs.

Distance:  51.96 Miles
Pedaling Time:  4 Hours  32 Minutes
Avg Speed: 11.4
Real Time:  6 Hours  2 Minutes

The Struggle is real, serious, fucked, crazy, fun, ongoing, beautiful,  all about heart! As you can tell I went through each of these thoughts as I made my way through the trails and trials today. The temperature was well over the predicted 90 degrees and there was traffic and re-routes due to the African Summit, going on downtown for the next few days, but I didn't let those things stop me from my goal. As a result, I had the most fulfilling ride. No one ever said that losing this weight would be easy, bring it on I think I can handle this.

The Trail I hit today was the Capital Crescent Trail and on to Georgetown before eventually ending up on The Capital Crescent Trail and heading to Lyttonsville, Md. The trip was tiring but well worth it. As you can see from the pictures below, there's a bonus to heading to Bethesda using the Crescent Trail. When you reach mile 12 there's a shaved ice stand that should help you beat the heat. Of course I didn't get it today, but trust that on or about the 5th of September I will return and gorge. The scenery, alone is worth the trip but a bit of shaved ice on a hot bike ride as a bonus can't be beat.

Sacrifice
Done, Done Son...
At the end of the day, change is hard, but it can also be rewarding if you go into it with an open mind and a willingness to sacrifice. This journey is so much more than a journey about losing weight, it's about pushing myself to the limits and stomping past them with a smile on my face. While I am going hard, I pick my spots and smell the roses along the way and am encouraged as a result, to embrace the next day. BTW- The following shots are of the two hills that await me from my return home each time I ride. Yep, they are straight uphill and probably the most intimidating part of any ride that I make. Imagine riding 50 miles and having the last half mile being straight uphill. To say it's a character defining moment, is a gross understatement of the highest order.

*Special Note: The Capital Crescent Trail from Georgetown to Bethesda is mostly uphill, I think the first 6 miles are an uphill climb. There are two positives to take away from this though, one is that shaved ice stand that is conveniently waiting at the end of the trail in Bethesda and the other is the trip back home is ALL Downhill and those are both welcomed treats...
