I start off each of my long rides with a lunch that will give me a bit of energy to push through my ride and follow it up with a cup of white grapefruit juice and plenty of water. Below is an example of what I normally eat for lunch and dinner. I happen to love my steak raw and my eggs are normally soft boiled. Of course you can cook both to well if you wish.

Since it's Friday and there are only two more days of riding for me, I'll ramp it up slightly, but I definitely wanted to have some chill time while out there. The weather was great, only 86 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze. I headed off to Rock Creek Park to take the Valley Trail towards the National Zoo. This is a trail that is primarily flat, shaded and full of wonderful scenery and all types of enthusiasts. There are however, a few hills that will need to be negotiated but, the upside is that they are downhill one of the ways (optimistic approach). There are also a couple of tight pathways, ones in which you are in close proximity with oncoming traffic, just slow down and all will be fine. All in all it's a great trail that leads to a huge system of other trails and is easy and enjoyable to ride on. I finished off my ride by heading back to The Yards @ National's Park and took in a couple of tunes from a live band, you just can't beat live music.

There's nothing better than ending your day on an unexpected note, especially if that note is from a live band. As I have written before, there are so many things that you can find for free in DC, most of them even make for a great date. I had no idea that there was live music each Friday at the Yards, but I will be sure to head back each Friday until the 12th Of September. If any of you happen to be free, come on down and join me, I'll be on my bike and always love company… Rockin' On The River…
