Better Late Than Never... Oct 8th Day 28

Distance Today: 11.62 Miles
Pedaling Time: 1 Hour
Avg Speed: 11.5 mph
Real Time: 1 Hour 4 Minutes

There's an old adage that goes a bit like this; "If you want to make God laugh then tell him your plans!" This has been proven to me time and time again in the past and I'm living it right now. When I started this trek 28 bike rides ago I planned on being done by the mid point of August, but as time went on things changed. I saw more and more trails and met people so I modified my trip and continued to push on. About 45 days ago I was down to 3 last rides and figured to get them within the week but here I am today, still waiting to take the last two rides.

Today I decided to take a in the city, no trails, just a ride around the streets of DC in order to see the foliage changing colors. As you can see from below the change is full on and makes for a head swiveling journey. I have just two rides left (one of which 100 miles) and will try to get them in before Halloween. What's the hold up, you might ask? I have no clear answer for you, except for to say life does get in the way from time to time but finishing what you started is the goal and I'll be sure to get there. As far as the weight loss goes, it's still gone and I'm still on track to make my weight...

A Ride In The Park... Friday, September 19 2014 Day 27

Distance Today: 27.34 Miles
Pedaling Time: 2 Hours 16 Minutes
Avg Speed: 12.0 mph
Real Time: 2 Hours 16 Minutes

With only 3 more rides left taking it easy is not really an option. I think this was a ride that would be best described as a ride in the park, not that it was easy at all. This ride started in Anacostia went through National Airport, up to Falls Church, to Rosslyn and finally back to DC, but along the way there are quite a bit of sites to see to include the Kennedy Center, Roosevelt Island and a few bridges along the way that provide awesome photo ops, especially with the foliage starting to change colors.
With only three more rides left, I hope catch some great pictures before I hang up my biking shorts, I guess we will have to wait and see...

Back On The Trails & Taking Time To Smell The Roses... Monday, Sept 15th 2014 Day 26

Mural in Anacostia, DC

Distance Today: 28.01 Miles
Pedaling Time: 2 Hours 22 Minutes
Avg Speed: 11.7 mph
Real Time: 3 Hours 16 Minutes

I'm Back!!!!! Today I went on a ride through Anacostia to Virginia and back to DC. (Basically a big 28 mile circle.), but I took the dreaded Custis Trail (The widow-maker) so it was an uphill battle for about 1.5 hours of the 2+ hour trip. Being as though this was my first trip back, after a week off I decided to punish myself. I also took the time to smell the roses as you can see below. This is the 26th ride of my 30 challenge and I felt great and am ready to knock the other 4 out in the next week or so. This includes a 100 mile ride that I will take in the next 7 days. Wish me well and I'll keep you informed.

Just Another Day of Many... Friday, September 5th 2014 Day 25

Distance Today: 31.32 Miles
Pedaling Time: 2 Hours 21 Minutes
Avg Speed: 12.4 mph
Real Time: 2 Hours 42 Minutes
Total Miles For The Week: 121.25 Miles
Total In 25 Days: 753.49 Miles
Week Start Weight: 242 lb
Week End: 237 lb

Capitol Crescent Trail is the route I took today and it was difficult to get motivated for the trip this time around. I have 5 more rides left before the challenge is done so of course I'm getting tired at this point. No worries though, I've come to far to slack now. This just means that I will have to dig deeper in order to meet the goals and get through to the end. Although the weather was hot, the ride was one of my better rides and I kept a great pace until my return home. When I got there I showered and fell asleep for about 4 hours, now I'm back up writing this.

With only 5 days (rides) left, I am exhausted and have decided to take a week away from biking to rest up for the final 5. I might just veg out, but more than likely I will go jogging or something else. I look to finishing up sometime around the middle of the month or so. I'll keep you posted as to my weight next week as well.

Another Scorcher... Tuesday, Sept 2, 2014 Day 24

Today was humid and hot and registered in at over 95 degrees and I could feel it from the start. My boy Shelby called me and told me, very sternly I might add, to stay my old ass in the house and off of the trails with the heat advisory being in the extreme red. Well of course you know me, I had to prove him wrong so off I went and sweated as much today in 30 miles as I did on my 83 mile trek. As you can see I started off with the Anacostia trail, made my way through town to Georgetown, then to DuPont, around to South West and finally back to Anacostia Park for a total of 28 miles. It was hot, but I had a great time and was home early enough to relax and gather myself for a quiet evening and plenty of water.

Distance Today: 28.49 Miles
Pedaling Time: 2 Hours 44 Minutes
Avg Speed: 10.3 mph
Real Time: 3 Hours 03 Minutes
